Radical Reimagining: research, writing, prototyping
Organisation: CIVIC SQUARE
The project: CIVIC SQUARE take their responsibility to work and learn ‘in the open’ very seriously, with an incredible dedication to documenting their work demonstrating new possibilities. I’ve had the privilege of doing some research, writing and editing work alongside the team, firstly as they prepared to launch the first Neighbourhood Doughnut Portrait, produced in Ladywood, Birmingham, inspired by Kate Raworth’s Doughnut Economics, and later for a report for the Design Museum Future Observatory calling on DCMS to take urgent action towards a just climate transition.
“It has been so good to work with you on this, it’s been dreamy to be able to collaborate in this way, you’ve just stepped in and understood immediately what needed to be done. We couldn’t have got through this huge piece of work without your help. Thank you so much!” – Imandeep Kaur, Founder Director
My collaboration with CIVIC SQUARE continues as I now work alongside the team to bring the beautiful, urgent, ambitious vision for a Neighbourhood Public Square alongside a robust delivery plan and build the case for regenerative civic infrastructure. The Neighbourhood Public Square seeks to prototype community infrastructure capable of generating green energy, jobs and training for regenerative futures, alongside skill-shares, workspace, and social and community space for the neighbourhood. It spans the simultaneous needs for adaptation, transition and transformation of the built environment with neighbourhood participation at its heart.
